I recently went to Design Miami in LA and it was so beautiful to see the works in a proper home setting instead of a convention center. There's a few artists who I've been following for a while, so I loved seeing more of their work in this environment.
Later that day I went for a float at Pause Studio and floating there peacefully for an hour is when a surge of inspiration came to me. I've meditated for 56 days in a row now (this is a new ritual for me!) and it felt so grounding having that hour for my mind and body to be.
I've always been a very enthusiastic and engaged person so I deeply value active presence. When I meet someone I tend to have this tunnel vision for them and everything else blurs away. I value that I find genuine presence in conversation and I value when others do the same.
Our digital footprints. They are valuable in certain ways, but the physical footprint and impact of how we move through the world regardless of social media should never be under valued— it's our true selves.
Wellbeing means being in harmony with yourself. It means taking time to do the things that make you feel most you, whatever that may be. Being well is a privilege and something to never take for granted.
I love it. It might be my favorite thing. I grew up in the South Florida sun and playing outside, so I've always consumed a ton of water. I'm always the friend who has a glass bottle on me wherever I go, and I have a Berkey water filter at home so I can drink minimum 8 glasses a day, if not more.
Water is so important, I've always been the person who soaked my hair with fresh water before jumping into a pool or ocean to fill up the hair fiber so it's less harsh on your strands (chlorine is a tough one). Not a day goes by that I'm not so grateful to have fresh water— I love my shower time, baths, I love my evening skincare rituals at the sink. I sound crazy but it's really so key for life and health.
I wish I was a morning person! My creativity and productivity flourishes in the wee hours. 9:30 - midnight is when all the good stuff comes out on the page and I can crank in quiet. Because of that (I aim for 7-ish hours of sleep), it means my morning rituals don't start until 8am and I'm at my desk around 9:30am. I'm aiming to rewrite the narrative of the night owl CEO, but the world is designed for morning people!

For the same reason I loved my hour-long float in LA, I love shower time to be with my brain. It's time away from your phone, time to indulge in self-care rituals, and I love my wash day routine. Washing my hair is one of my favorite things to do— I've completely shifted the mindset of having wash day be a chore.
Wash day is something to look forward to! Some of my best thoughts come to me in the shower (literally the idea for Crown Affair), but recently I wrote a poem (in my head) and wrote it down when I came out. There's a poem by Brad Aaron Modlin called 'What You Missed That Day You Were Absent from Fourth Grade' and the last poem I wrote in the shower also boiled down to the simple, human experiences we had as a child that we can observe now different as we become who we are as "adults."
This one was about sitting in the back of the room in a classroom, something I never did growing up but I've realized the power of the back of the room more recently.
