SHOWER THOUGHTS

WITH Tasneem Sarkez
When I went to the Brooklyn Academy of Music for their Sundog event, which paired a series of composers and filmmakers alongside a live orchestra. Sound & image amalgamated in a way that was really engaging but also intimate. I liked that mediation of what sounds like a loud symphony with more poetic/contemplative imagery.

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU FELT INSPIRED?

When I went to the Brooklyn Academy of Music for their Sundog event, which paired a series of composers and filmmakers alongside a live orchestra. Sound & image amalgamated in a way that was really engaging but also intimate. I liked that mediation of what sounds like a loud symphony with more poetic/contemplative imagery.

WHAT DO YOU VALUE THE MOST ABOUT YOURSELF AND WHY?

I think I value my relationship to process. Process as an act is generative and however it may go, either in failure or success, I still value the idea of trying and what comes out of that. It’s something that I find a lot of ground in as someone in the arts.

WHAT'S ONE THING YOU THINK OTHER PEOPLE OVERVALUE?

Sometimes it's good to keep secrets and recluse yourself, your research, your work, etc, and not be so quick to proclaim a public impression of established titles after doing one thing. I think we overvalue that false belief of perfection in art and being an ‘expert’ because it feels more embarrassing to be perceived as a beginner, when that search for perfection can be paralyzing. We don’t value learning enough. You can’t make one painting and call yourself a painter.

WHAT DOES THE WORD 'WELLBEING' MEAN TO YOU?

Being aware of what you need to feel good mentally and physically, and being consistent with meeting those needs.

WHAT IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH WATER?

I think of my relationship with water as a sort of reset. Like going to the beach or even taking a shower, I feel like I come out of it feeling differently. Almost like a timestamp in setting a new day.

IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT YOUR DAILY ROUTINE, WHAT WOULD THAT BE?

Waking up earlier to have a good start to the day. I think I rush my mornings and would like to slow down.

WHAT WOULD YOUR STARTER PACK INCLUDE?

A Midori MD Notebook, Rose Perfume oil, RX Bars, Oil paint, MoMA Bodum Moka Pot

HAVE YOU HAD ANY INTERESTING SHOWER THOUGHTS LATELY?

I mostly just zone out. I don’t have as much luck with shower thoughts as other people do.
