SHOWER THOUGHTS

WITH sofie pavitt
Sofie Pavitt is a licensed esthetician, owner of the Sofie Pavitt Skincare Studio, and founder of Sofie Pavitt Face. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband, two boys, and French bulldog, Cremy.

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU FELT INSPIRED?

I get inspired every single day. We live in the best city in the world—New York City! I love riding the train and looking at everyone. I love watching girls do their makeup on the train and talking to each other in the bathroom of a bar. My kids inspire me—their brains are crazy! I love the way they see the world. I also just came back from Seoul with my team. That was extremely enriching from a work lens and also, personally, was deeply needed.

WHAT DO YOU VALUE THE MOST ABOUT YOURSELF AND WHY?

That I’m empathetic? I worked in corporate fashion for 15 years—like a dog. I got ten days off a year and worked 14-hour days. And although I’ll always value my experience and time in that world, I also love my life now, where I can take care of people (in the skincare studio) and create the working environment I want to be in with my team. I love being a mom and taking care of these two boys!

WHAT'S ONE THING YOU THINK OTHER PEOPLE OVERVALUE?

Waiting for the "right time" to start something — this applies to everything, by the way: work projects, personal goals, everything. Build the ship as you're sailing! There's never a right time for anything. Quit procrastinating and DO IT. I've always been someone who just gets to it — and sometimes it's not it, and that's okay. At least it was attempted? Most of the time, it works out! The idea of getting to old age and having a life of what ifs really freaks me out. I go in, and I go hard.

WHAT DOES THE WORD 'WELLBEING' MEAN TO YOU?

To double down on that — wellbeing, for me, is about getting to the “I’ll do that someday” and “I need to get that going” lists. Habit stacking — whether it’s taking supplements, carving out time to read, work out, lie down, or whatever you truly love to do (but often can’t because of work or family needs) — me time is incredibly important. And if not now — when? Also, I can’t emphasize enough: you need to take care of yourself in your 20s and 30s to look good in your 40s. Wear the sunscreen. Quit the cigs (have some in your 20s — whatever, enjoy that phase — but definitely quit by your 30s :-)). Cut down on the drinking. Lift heavy weights a couple times a week. Stop worrying about getting super skinny and eat loads of vegetables and fiber — this will make your skin look great. And stop over-supplementing, too.

WHAT IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH WATER?

I'm a Cancer so being by water is important to me. I grew up in Wales never not far from a beach and I've always loved being beside the sea. I have two tiny kids and the answer to most problems is water. Kids acting out? Get them in the bath/ outdoors with the hose, play with ice cubes, etc. I'm addicted to my outdoor shower in my house in the summer too- it's always sad when I have to close it for the winter and always a joy to open it back up every April.

IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT YOUR DAILY ROUTINE, WHAT WOULD THAT BE?

I always say if I could someone to do my hair every day for me that would be peak dream life for me. a blow out, an updo- I'm always fighting with my hair and would just love glam every morning lol. A girl can dream.

WHAT WOULD YOUR STARTER PACK INCLUDE?

Salt and vinegar kettle chips, iced coffee, and Diet Coke (not together, but sat together); Seed probiotic; Barry’s Bootcamp; Nike Rift trainers; Gucci platforms; DS & Durga Rose Atlantic; Sofie Pavitt Face Mandelic Clearing Serum and Omega Rich; a blonde French bulldog; whiteboard/wall calendar; shrimp cocktail; Invisalign (has become my whole identity — I hate it so much); Rose LA edibles.

HAVE YOU HAD ANY INTERESTING SHOWER THOUGHTS LATELY?

I have lots of interesting shower thoughts. I’m mostly thinking about work and creative direction for my team on funny campaigns. This is crazy, but I only tend to shower outdoors at my house—if I’m inside, I prefer a bath. So I’m always outdoors in my shower, and I love that vibe. I’m always thinking about how luxurious it is to shower outside, be in nature, and just... vibing. A breeze through the wooden slats... it’s awesome. An ice-cold shower beer is also an elite experience—I highly encourage everyone to try it at least once in their life.
