SHOWER THOUGHTS

WITH Sloane Stephens
Sloane is a Grand Slam tennis champion, Olympian, and the founder of the Sloane Stephens Foundation. Off the court, she’s a passionate advocate for youth empowerment and the co-founder of Doc & Glo, a body care brand inspired by movement and purpose. She’s always working to leave the world better than she found it.

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU FELT INSPIRED?

At the ESPYs, I received the Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Award. I was surrounded by people using their platforms to do more, and it reminded me why I started the Sloane Stephens Foundation in the first place. The impact lives far beyond the court.

WHAT DO YOU VALUE THE MOST ABOUT YOURSELF AND WHY?

My resilience. Life has thrown a lot my way, on the court and off, but I always come back stronger, softer, and more sure of who I am. That bounce-back ability is my superpower.

WHAT'S ONE THING YOU THINK OTHER PEOPLE OVERVALUE?

Perfection. Especially on social media, people chase this curated, flawless version of life. But real growth and joy come from the messy, human, behind-the-scenes moments.

WHAT DOES THE WORD 'WELLBEING' MEAN TO YOU?

Wellbeing is movement, inside and out. It’s mental clarity, physical flow, emotional freedom. It’s caring for yourself the way you care for someone you love.

WHAT IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH WATER?

Water is my peace. Whether I’m swimming, soaking, sweating, or just sipping. It keeps me grounded, cleansed, and connected to something bigger. My mom was the first-ever African American All-American swimmer, so water has always been a huge part of my life. We recently launched Compton Swim Club, the first ever swim club at the new Compton High School, to give kids access to swim lessons and water safety. So this isn’t just personal, it’s generational.

IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT YOUR DAILY ROUTINE, WHAT WOULD THAT BE?

I wish I could slow mornings down. Less rushing, more rituals. A stretch, a steam, and maybe five extra minutes just being before doing.

WHAT WOULD YOUR STARTER PACK INCLUDE?

Doc & Glo deodorant (obviously), silk pillowcase (for the hair), My Jolie filtered showerhead, SPF, a claw clip, and snacks.

HAVE YOU HAD ANY INTERESTING SHOWER THOUGHTS LATELY?

If I'm “caring for bodies in motion,” why don’t we design our routines to rest on purpose too? Like, where’s the rest agenda??
