SHOWER THOUGHTS

WITH Londyn Harris
Londyn is a Los Angeles native passionate about anthropology, history, art, and sincerity. She has been modeling for 5 years and is currently studying to become an actress. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time at museums and libraries, DJ’ing, and hiking.

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU FELT INSPIRED?

Last night, I rewatched Fantastic Mr. Fox with my boyfriend at his house. He has the Criterion Collection edition, which includes a ton of behind-the-scenes footage. We went through and watched nearly every clip, documenting the process from casting to voice-acting to music composition to puppet fabrication and everything in between. It takes a magnanimous group effort to achieve. The fact that stop-motion films are made at all is a miracle. Magical things happen when creativity, passion, intention, and execution coalesce. Beyond the technical, the film’s ambiance is just so cozy and unique and draws heavy inspiration from American folk art, which I’ve also been enamored with as of late. Last week, I was in Austin, Texas and spent much of my time there exploring vintage shops of all sizes. I’m so inspired by handmade things, old things, and items of sentimentality. Folk art’s nature as an accessible art form driven by functionality, resourcefulness, and the desire to create something beautiful has been resonating especially strong in these colder months.

WHAT DO YOU VALUE THE MOST ABOUT YOURSELF AND WHY?

Oooh this is a good thing to think about. I’d say that the aspect I value most about myself is my ability to challenge my own beliefs.

WHAT'S ONE THING YOU THINK OTHER PEOPLE OVERVALUE?

The opinions of others! It is a plague on the minds of far too many, but especially as women, we’re socialized to perceive ourselves from outside in, self-monitoring and adjusting as we feel necessary to satisfy the gaze of the world. It creates a never-ending loop of unnecessary self inflicted guilt. Always yearning and striving rather than being. Choosing to perceive from the inside out, however, you become a witness and more active participant in the world without fear of judgement.

WHAT DOES THE WORD 'WELLBEING' MEAN TO YOU?

Wellbeing means living in a state of bliss. For me, this can be achieved through practicing gratitude throughout my day, choosing not to engage with inflammatory media, and assuming the best.

WHAT IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH WATER?

Water is a teacher, friend, mirror and healer. My shower is a space for ritual, where I can be tender and thoughtful. A stream will beckon with its joyful trickle to come and play amongst its pebbly shores. Or, a still glass surface, lake waters reflect a world back to you, mirroring and magnifying one’s own inner world. Bobbing above between and below waves, the sea teaches how to surrender.

IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT YOUR DAILY ROUTINE, WHAT WOULD THAT BE?

I would love to cook more! I get very into meal prepping for the week since it’s convenient, but it would be so cool to cook fresh and exciting meals everyday.

WHAT WOULD YOUR STARTER PACK INCLUDE?

Motorcycle boots, Officine Universale Buly hand lotion, Aesop Rozu perfume, a long, tan trench coat, gold bangles, big sunglasses, wired headphones, a small notebook, and a book of poems (right now it’s the "Book of Hours" by Rainer Maria Rilke).
