SHOWER THOUGHTS

WITH Éva Goicochea
Éva Goicochea is the founder, Creative Director, and CEO of maude, a modern and inclusive intimacy company. Based in New York, she has a background in healthcare and brand-building, and lives with her husband and two senior Shih Tzus, Mabel and Luisa.

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU FELT INSPIRED?

I just went to the Dolomites with my husband, Ian, and was deeply inspired—to forget everything about startup life. Truly. Ecomm? Funnels? Decks? I couldn’t be bothered, and it was glorious. Nature really said: log off.

WHAT DO YOU VALUE THE MOST ABOUT YOURSELF AND WHY?

I’m discerning, say exactly what I think, and am fearless in most situations—except I’m afraid of the dark... and of getting squished between two parked cars. (Don’t ask. I don’t know either.)

WHAT'S ONE THING YOU THINK OTHER PEOPLE OVERVALUE?

Youth. I said the other day to someone that it's so weird we spend most of our lives middle-aged or older, and yet we judge everything—our worth, our beauty, our relevance—by our 20s and 30s, when we didn’t know yet. What a farce. Midlife is the main event; everything before that is just a pre-party (enjoy it).

WHAT DOES THE WORD 'WELLBEING' MEAN TO YOU?

Wellbeing means integration, balance, and not living your life on an emotional trampoline. It’s being able to enjoy a croissant without spiraling into guilt. Radical stuff.

WHAT IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH WATER?

Hate to drink it. Love to sail on it. I contain multitudes.

IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT YOUR DAILY ROUTINE, WHAT WOULD THAT BE?

If I never had to dry my hair again, I’d be thrilled. Modern innovation has come so far, and yet here we are—still stuck holding a hot air cannon over our heads like it’s 1987.

WHAT WOULD YOUR STARTER PACK INCLUDE?

Two shih tzus (one blind, one toothless—both dramatic), a few vintage design books, a strong coffee, SPF 50, and probably a Canadian tuxedo because I'd rather not think too hard about what to wear.

HAVE YOU HAD ANY INTERESTING SHOWER THOUGHTS LATELY?

Yes: Wait—did I already condition? That, and also maybe we were never meant to know this many people’s opinions.
